THE AMERICAN ORINOCO DELTA
The Orinoco Delta is in eastern Venezuela. It is formed by the Orinoco River, the largest river in South America. According to Rawlins, C. B.(1999) the river is 2,140 kilometres(ie.1,330 miles) long and splits into small streams called Canos that eventually wanders into the Atlantic Ocean. There are two small streams, namely Rio Grande and Cano Manamo. They empty at the south-east and north-west edges of the Orinoco Delta.

The Orinoco River and its small streams form the major transportation system in Venezuela with the Llanos of Colombia. Anyway, with increased communications by land, the importance attached to waterways has (lowered in number/got worse/gotten worse) much/a lot (Stark, James H.1897).

As (typical and expected) of other deltas, the Orinoco Delta experiences seasonal flooding from the freshwater swamp forests, fringed with mangroves. It shares (more than two, but not a lot of) (features/ qualities/ qualities) with the River Niger and the Niger Delta of Nigeria. It is, for example, divided into two:- northern part between Cano Manamo and Cano Araguao (an equal of Rivers Niger and Benue). We wish to point out that majority of the residents of the delta are in the Cano Araguao section. While the Niger Delta has four, the Orinoco Delta has nine land areas, along with ten major rivers in Venezuela.

To recall, Mackee, E.D. et al (1998) stated that the Orinoco River with its delta was first travelled safely through by Colombus on August 1,1498, but was fully explored later by Venezuelan -French navigators in1951, i.e after 453 years. In between the 453 years, (more than two, but not a lot of), people made a lot of works. They included Ambrosius Ehinger (German big, important trip), Diego de Ordaz, Boca de Navios, Antonio de Berrio, and Alexander Von Humboldt.

Development Ways of thinking
The Orinoco Delta, like the Niger Delta, is not developed and handled as a Department of Government. So, there are no institutional and sets of laws as (able to be defended/able to be continued) in other deltas. In view of this, there is the very little human ability (to hold or do something) and infrastructural development. The major money-based activity is oil production. As Weibezahn, F. H et al (1990) put it, "... The Orinoco is an oil belt" in Venezuela, making the country the fourth largest producer of oil (pulled out or taken from something else) from the ground in the world, with proven reserves of 130.6 billion barrels as at December 31,2002.

As related to other deltaic areas, oil production has its very bad results on (the health of the Earth/the surrounding conditions) and the whole eco-system. Anyway, our study finds that the level of insulting/worsening is much less than that of the Niger Delta. So, the human rights (events of very mean, unfair treatment) of that/of it have not resulted in violent conflicts as in the Niger Delta. Going forward, the City of Guayana has (put into a hospital)/(made a behaviour acceptable) a once-a-year "swim race" along the Orinoco river since 1988. It has become a major tourist attraction that has gained worldwide importance, with over 1,000 competitors every year.

Hit/effect and Lessons for the Future
The area has impacted positively on water transportation, tourism and oil production. Interestingly, the derivation way of thinking/basic truth/rule of money/money income setting apart and distributing is applied, and therefore the area does not noisy shout for the usual useful thing/valuable supply control and management as in the Niger Delta. Basically, there is relative peace and security in the delta.

Be that as it may, the (not being there; not being present) of (acting to prevent problems before they happen) management of the delta through (full of energy)/changing institutional arrangement is negatively/badly affecting the change of the delta. The government of Venezuela should institute policies that would expose the full potentials of the area beyond oil production and swim race. One of such policies should be directed at (taking by force)/(taking control of) and controlling the farming-based and fishery potentials of the delta.
